Hey all,
I have a question about finishing Venga. I have a full house (beds, closets, desks) out of Maple and Venga. The Maple of course is no problem to finish, but the Venga is giving me a real hard time. The client wants the finish smooth (like glass), but the Venga is full of pits and pores. I end up having to coat the wood 10 times with primer, sanding inbetween, to fill up all pores. Is there some kind of coating or epoxy I can use once to fill the pores? HELP!!
Thx

Jeff,
Are you referring to wenge? I am not familiar with the name venga. Wenge is dark brown/black, very open-grained wood and needs to be filled to achieve a level surface. I like it unfilled. But you can use a silex wood filler that will need to be tinted very dark with an ebony stain. If the pieces are constructed with maple and wenge as part of the same piece, it would be a good idea to prefinish (seal) the maple with shellac to protect it from the stain.
