I live in the california desert where temperatures go up to 115 in the summer. I am wondering how to finish my fir wood glider swing to protect it from the dry heat. I also want to have the color of the wood to be teak color to match our patio furniture. Thanks for any info.

Litz, somehow your post ended up in the Cafe, which is way at the bottom of the list of discussions. I'm going to suggest that you post it in "Finishing" (when you click on Post New, there will be a dropdown list to select the correct group). Also, I'm going to suggest that you give your discussion a more specific title, e.g., Outdoor finish - hot/dry climate or whatever will fit in the title box.
Good Luck!
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Thanks for helping outLiz
The exterior finishes that are solid color stain or semi-transparent last longer than the clear finishes. Pick one that is as close to the color you want as you can find.
Check out consumer reports for their test results on exterior finishes - Consumer Reports. Some last longer than others, but all need scheduled maintenance to keep them from failing.
