I am doing some woodwork in wormy red oak and want the worm holes to remain. What is the best way to get a reddish finish without filling the worm holes? I tried using a wood filler on a sample piece, and had to use air to blow the filler out of the holes. This would be very time consuming and labor intensive. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks. Bocheck,
I know this may sound very simplistic but just eliminate the filler. That way the wormy portion stands alone.
What are you building? R.ed oak doesn't always require a filler, especially if it's not a formal piece

Thanks for the reply. I'm doing Stair rail, cabinet facings & baseboards in my basement. I'm finish planing & cutting my own lumber that has been sitting on my patio for about 10 to 15 years. I have always used a filler on oak because of the open grain, but I will not use it on this job. Thanks again.........Bocheck.
