Three large 3 foot by 4 foot ash wood wall panels have discolored over time to be Darker than the area on the panels that was covered by a smaller pictures. The small pictures were removed a year and a half ago and the lighter area now exposed needs to be made darker. The panel appears to have coats of poly over the stain. These panels have been exposed to indirect sunlight and artificial light only in the living room of this home. The question is: How do we fix this problem and make the lighter area in the middle of each of these three large panels darker to match the rest of the panel? Hope you can help me with this.
Thank you,

Doug,
I spoke with several members of the editorial staff regarding this issue.
The first option is to expose the lighter areas be to light for more time. However, it sounds like you have been doing this for a while.
The second option is to sand down the panels and refinish. This is a lot more labor intensive, but will give you a consistent finish.
