I have some fine scratches on a cherry top end table. The hi gloss surgface appears to be poly. Does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning up the scratches without refinishing the entire top?
Will a coating of wax help? If so what kind of wax.
Thanks

As long as the finish is cured there's a bunch o' ways to do this assuming your definition of 'fine' means shallow enough they don't need to be filled. I'd first try Johnson's paste wax and 4/0 steel wool. If that doesn't do it, strip the wax and rub out the entire top with dry 4/0 steel wool, 3M micro pads, or even wet sanding with 600 or 800 grit silicon carbide wet or dry paper. This will leave a nice even matte finish. Bring the gloss up to where you want with any 'clear coat safe' liquid automotive polish. I use my 9" Waxmaster R/O car polisher and McGuires. If I'm after blinding gloss I'll finish with corn starch and a sheeps wool bonnet on the RO.
