Does anyone have a solution for fixing a slightly cupped cherry top 1 1/4 x32x42 oval. It is not finished yet. It cupped slightly while waiting for the base to be completed. Can’t sand it because the thinkness must remain as is. Thanks much

Try wetting the concave side, which will cause that face to expand. The amount of wetting is a matter for experimentation, but I suggest wiping the face with a saturated sponge on the first try. You may have to go in steps and sneak up on flat. Or, if you overshoot, wait for it to dry more and catch the curvature at zero on the way back.
Donald,
Appreciate the suggestion. I'll try it.
Dick
Donald,
Worked like a charm. Funny I didn't think of it as I've always put tops with the concave side down on some wet grass and the sun on the convex side. But it's wintery in the northeast at the moment, and didn't make the connection.
Best Regards,
Dick
Glad you got reminded of the technique -- I've used it many times and it's such a pleasure to see that piece of wood go back to being flat.
Since the sun maintains a pretty low profile here in the Great Northwest most of the time, another technique that has come in handy is barely damp towels (to mimic the grass) with a utility light like they use with baby chicks and ducklings (to mimic the sun).forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
thanks for the added suggestion. I agree it is almost like magic watching the wood expand to become flat again. Happy Holidays
If you try that towel-and-lamp method and it doesn't quite work, get a couple of cats like mine (one fat, one just plain big). Their added weight as they take their cat-naps under the warm lamp may just do the trick!!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
