I was watching a FWW video on bowls carved with an adze and it mentioned using cold pressed flaxseed oil. Normally on all my bowls I use 4 to 1 mix of mineral oil and wax that I blend myself. Works well, how does this compare to using flaxseed? Are there meaningful differences that would make using this worthwhile?

I began using food-grade flaxseed oil on my wooden spoons after Peter Follansbee recommended it in his 2015 spoon carving video.
After it's fully dried, which can take weeks because it has no added chemicals, it doesn't feel oily. Mineral oil always has an oily feel to it that I'm not fond of.
Also, flaxseed oil seems to withstand repeated washing better than mineral oil so I can wait longer before refreshing the finish.

Thanks for the info, can wax be added to it for a little extra protection, is it really not needed, and if it is a good idea how much would you use? Thanks
+1 for flaxseed oil. I also like walnut oil. Both will harden over time, and both last longer than mineral oil in my opinion. Also tung oil, which will harden quicker. You might be interested in David Fisher's take here: https://davidffisher.com/resources/use-care-of-wooden-ware/

I tried wax with flaxseed (linseed) oil a few years ago but haven't done that recently, and haven't tried it with walnut oil. I just haven't found it necessary on my style of bowls and spoons. I'd suggest Chris Schwarz's recipe: https://blog.lostartpress.com/2021/07/12/cook-your-own-linseed-oil-wax-finish/
(his daughter also sells it as "Soft Wax 2.0" - search the Lost Art Press site for that)
Or you could buy Tried&True Original Wood Finish which is also flaxseed oil and beeswax, if your time savings are worth it to you.
Flaxseed is also known as linseed. So I infer you mean untreated or unaltered (not boiled) linseed oil.
Flaxseed oil is usually the food grade of raw linseed oil
