I’ve been out of touch for a few years. Yesterday I wanted to buy a quart of Flecto Varathane Liquid Plastic finish. I’ve used this for many years to create a tough, high gloss finish for furniture. I can’t find it and get the idea it is no longer made under the Flecto name. Is this correct? What’s the replacement…who bought Flecto?

You can do better than the Flecto. For a light colored varnish I recomment Pratt and Lambert 38. This is made using alkyd resin but with soya oil for a very light color that yellows less than most over time. For darker wood, and where real toughness is required, look for Waterlox varnish. It comes in Satin, Original (which is semigloss, and already thinned to use as a wiping varnishm, and Gloss.
Flecto Varathane is still around. The brand is owned by Rustoleum. Google "flecto varathane" and you will find some info. There are better choices to use.
