I have recently put down a red oak floor over the concrete slab of my garage/workshop. Because I live in Houston and we are experiencing our version of the monsoon season, I will need to finish the floor in two stages keeping my eqipment/tools in the other side not being worked on. Therefore, I want to put down a finish that will be quick to use and dry. So one option wopuld be a water based poly, but I was wondering about using shellac instead. It would be fast, and could be easily “repaired” as needed. What do you think. Thanks.

Shellac is an excellent floor finish and will fill your need for a quick drying finish that is easily repaired.
The one thing to be very careful of are the fumes. To prevent the chance of a flash fire be sure to extinguish all pilot lights and thoroughly ventilate the area with fans as you work.
