Just about ready to move into rebuilt cottage with new oak strip floors, and looking for some way to protect them from chair legs; anyone with experience with protectors you put on the chair feet, or should I just put down a big rug? thanks, ss

Go with the felt pads that tap in.
We started with the nylon glides but we were not happy. (and I did every piece of furniture in the house just before we moved to the new house.)
The glides leave behind nylon and do mar the finish eventually.
Now We get the tap in felt pads from Home Depot - they have a round "nail" on them - looks like a thin walled 1/4" diameter, 1/4" long pipe with a sharp edge.
Slowly we've changed every foot in the house. The felt does not slide on carpet but does move easily on the floor.
Best,
Mark
Measure it with a micrometer, mark it with chalk, cut it with an ax.
