I am installing double doors in my new addition, is it common to mortise the flush bolts into the T astragal, or should I use a flat astragal and install the flush bolts directly into the door edge? Thanks for any help. Steve

I've always cut the bolts into the side of the door. It is much neater and safer that way. The job of the astrigal is just to keep light from showing through and wind from blowing through. Even if you nail and glue the astrigal to the door, it is much weaker and can be easily forced (broken) off the (second) door with a good slam of the operating door. The only time I've seen the bolt on the face of the door is when there is a 'Cremone' (sp??) bolt which has a turn handle in the middle of the door and the fully exposed bolt rods running from top to bottom. These are usually installed on internal doors where beauty is more important than functionality.
