folding coffee table suitable for an RV
Could someone help with a versatile and classy fold down table for our RV. I would like to make it out of maple to match our unit. Thank you all. Fred

Fred,
Need more details, I use to go camping with my parents and their table folded down into the wall (to save space) of their camper. If that is a the case I would re-saw the maple, glue to MDF or Ply, finish with a Marian Varnish (takes a beating) and upgrade how the table is mounted to the wall.
How tall?

I'm basically looking for plans for a convertible table that can be a coffee table, end table, whatever, about 18-20 inches tall, that folds into a small unit which can be stored easily in a small space in an RV for travel.

Sandor Nagyszalanczy had an article in one of the woodworking magazines recently (within the last few months; unfortunately, I don't remember which issue of which magazine), in which he showed a fold-up coffee table. As I recall, it wasn't the most beautiful table in the world, but it seemed to work.

Fredwin,
hello and good times...I would probably not use maple because of the weight and difficulty with sanding, etc. I may lean towards mahogany...yes it is a little red but oh so dandy. You can make little cup holders that could fit beer cans and even soda. On the top face of the coffee or beer table insert neck ridges and or sliding footers. Handles on the sides for proper gripping while driving should be considered as well. We play checkers and monopoly on ours so little sliding compartments on the backside can be added at minimal cost. This can hold small moveable pieces and garbage. On one leg possibly add a dowel rod for a paper towel holder and use only Bounty for quick pick ups or maybe Scott. Man, just trying to think of everything....rubber feet on at least three legs is a must to cut back on sliding and accidents if you are with your lady friend...hit me back with some ideas....make it happen today.
talk atcha later,
bradbird
