Hi,
I recently built a window seat with an inbuilt queen-size foldaway bed. It looks great and stows the bed comfortably. There is one design flaw. To get at the bed, you have to lift the heavy oak lid and fix it to the wall using a support board. The lid has to remain propped-up while the bed is in use. My guests have complained that they don’t trust the lid staying open and have even mentioned dreams of being guillotined.
I want to simply put an accordion type hinge in the middle of the lid. This would provide for a lower profile which is more stable and act as a headboard. The only problem I have is picking the right type of hinges. I cannot find “stop” hinges that are locked in a flat position and then fold up to 180 degrees. I mention “stop” hinges because when they are in the flat position they would have to support someone sitting on the lid. Currently the lid is supported by biscuits and cross slats at this joint.
I am looking for either hinges or support design that allow for the folding lid and still be able to support 250 pounds when in the flat position.
Any ideas?

Can't say I know of anything that would be that sturdy- I would check with some of the commercial hardware companies like Hettich, Haeffle or Blum, etc. They probably make something that would work.
Anyone out there have any ideas?
