Seems like I read in one of these threads where a fellow was saying shellac is sort of a natural finish for pine, in terms of color tone- Any opinions? Next, any “naturals” for fir? Thanks ahead of time-

Shellac would be great for fir. The early/late growth patterns make it a hard one to use a stain on. Look at Jeff Jewitt's web site for various tones of shellac. I live in the northwest and there's alot of VGF in various interiors.
