Congrats on your birthday. I'm not that dumb to ask how old you will be. :o)
Happy birthday Forest Girl!!! Isn't it great to be -- yrs old!
:)
Yes, it's perfect, because I can fill in the "--" LOL! Thanks!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Happy Birthday.. and day off ! Got your email... Guess what.. I just got another green marble table top to work on. Somehow, a person in San Francisco saw the marble table and had a top nearly identical only oval shaped. They just delivered the top to me in the parking lot at work. I asked her where she saw the table and she said that a friend had printed a picture off of the internet. Must have been from here or over at Wood Central. I'm begining to think this business might just work after all.Steve - in Northern California
Oh yeah, almost forgot your cake......

Yum! My favorite! Gotta go get some milk.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
A new job, cool! Bet you'e not complaining about free advertising, either, right? Let's see, I know we have a piece of marble around here somewhere. How much does the oval piece weigh?forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
The new piece rings in at .... ta da.... 151 lbs. But.... This time I know what wood to use for the legs..... This should be a one shot deal with a pretty good pay off. I got 1,500.00 for the last one but lost about 3/4 of that in time and wood. It was pretty much trial an error with an emphasis on error.Steve - in Northern California
Yes, have a good one and like I always say, is not the age its the milage!
Have fun-Rocky
Thanks Rocky! Well, the mileage is pretty high, but does it help if it's mostly freeway miles?? LOL!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Amen to that!
Rocky
And the flowers - View ImageSteve - in Northern California

Had so much fun yesterday at your party that I decided to give myself a present. I'll pick up my new Jet 6" closed cabinet jointer this afternoon on the way home from work. Chips will be flying this weekend !Steve - in Northern California
Oh yeah, heres a picture. 499.00 + ca tax. In the box... 258 lbs. Post Tool. Santa Rosa, Ca. Same exact price as the internet but I'm paying taxes instead of shipping and I get it today.

Way to go, Steve!!! I'd call you a "lucky dog" but I know you work hard! Don'tcha just love the "today" part?forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Yeah... that's the best... Being the impulse buyer that I am. I'm always in search of the instant gratification. Not really, I've been looking and yakin about this thing for a while. I always new it would be a Jet. It was just a matter of what size. Steve - in Northern California
Well, if you ever decide to go to the 8" or whatever, give me a call -- you'll need a good home for this jointer!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Wanna share it ?Steve - in Northern California
Wow, that would take either a heck of a long infeed table, or a private commuter jet! LOL!
Have the Jet tweaked almost perfect now. Talk about 'new horizons' -- all sorts of possibilities now that it's straightened out!
Steve, thanks a ton for the birthday party! It was really fun, and made the day that much more special!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Hi ya kiddo, well this weekend has been full of suprises. The beismeyer is on ( dead on ) :-)))) . The new outfeed and side table are finished. The RAS got a new table top also.. Lots of other things were planned and then.... Lifted a sheet of 3/4 MDF out of the truck, caught a slight breeze, tried to save the side of the truck and broke my wrist in three places. Oh well, I type a lot slower with one hand but I can still get the words out. Attached are some pic's of the new setup:Steve - in Northern California
Steve, No! Please tell me you're kidding about your wrist!!
Somehow, I have a feeling you're not :-( How long are you going to be "laid up" w/regard to woodworking? Wrists are tricky things.
Speaking of which, the new set-up looks great!! Slick, Slick, Slick. What will you do with your old Jet fence? If you're gonna just toss it, I'll be glad to pay shipping to my place -- mine works, but it's kinda ratty looking.
Hope this injury doesn't adversely affect your ability to get that cabinet job you were talking about.
I did all the alignment tests on mine today, finished cleaning up the messy shop, go my dust collection working a bit better. Have a question for you though -- when you make your zero-clearance plates, how do you get that little groove underneath so you can clamp it down in the opening (what with the Jet's blade not going far enough down under the table)? I was thinking about installing one of the outside blades of my 6" dado.
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Edited to correct the phrase "I've did" I've what?!?!?!?
Edited 5/27/2002 10:52:40 PM ET by forest_girl
The wrist is just fractured not broken severely, just swollen. I can still push wood. Just can't lift anything heavy with my right arm, won't bother me a bit.
As for zero clearance plates. You don't even want to know how I do them and I don't want to post it here for fear someone will missunderstand it and sue me. Your idea about using your 8" dado blade is the best I've heard yet.
So you like the 60" wide outfeed table eh... Total length is 70". Plenty for ripping up those carcases. I wish I knew you wanted that fence, I gave it to my dad. Besides, you need a Beismeyer trust me. Once you try one you'll kick yourself for not getting one sooner.. A lot like a jointer....that is another sweet new addition. I can't imagine how I did what I did without it. I guess I just got good at covering up mistakes.Steve - in Northern California
I was gonna ask how the jointer was working. Well, I take it :)
Glad to hear the wrist isn't tooooo bad. Cast?
No biggie on the fence. Like I said, mine's just ratty looking -- don't know what that frame-shop guy did to it! Little dings all over the front part.
The Bies will have to wait for awhile -- am kinda frustrated right now trying to work without a planer, so I think that's next on the list.
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
The planer was an early addition to my shop and has seen quite a bit of use. However, the first time you use a jointer to edge and face joint a piece of wood you'll freak at how cool it works. The next thing you'll do is surface all four sides with the jointer. That's when you begin to realize that a jointer is indespensible if you're hand planing skills are not up to snuff. You'll also be suprised how well your table saw suddenly begins to perform. Those straight flat surfaces are the keys to success. If I would have had the extra space in the shop, I would have bought an 8" instead of the 6". Steve - in Northern California
Hey Steve, let's hijack this thread! :-) Seriously though, was just looking at the pics of your new saw setup again. Why? you may ask. Because I was going nuts tonight with the ol' can't-do-a-dado-with-a-splitter-on dilemma. Of course, whenever something comes up with the saw, I wonder about your setup, so was just checkin' it out. So, am seeing no splitter and no guard. I'm seriously considering forking out immediately for the Biesemeyer splitter. Probably would end up doing without the guard, or trying to build my own overhead guard. How do you handle the splitter situation?
I wouldn't mind so much taking the Jet assembly off and on, except I have not been able to get a bolt that fits to hold it on. I have it jury-rigged with bolts on both the inside and the outside, which don't fit very far into the threaded hole, but are tightened on with jam nuts and hold the assembly securely. But a royal, royal pain to undo and re-do. I got my third bolt from Jet today, and it's still not the right one!
How's that wrist? Playing tennis yet? forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
The splitter is in the top drawer of the roll around tool box.... Suprisingly, it looks very much like a screw driver. Seriously. I haven't cut the table for the splitter/guard yet. I have to take it all apart one more time so that I can oversize the mounting holes for the Beis's back rail. I need to add a little adjustment. I'll cutout for the splitter when I have it apart.
The wrist is fine, the doc says I have bones like a 20 year old, they are not brittle so they just tend to crack rather than break. I wish I had my 20 year old muscles back !
That table layout is great. I was cutting full sheets of 3/4 melamine and MDF yesterday (played hookie). The new extra long Bies fence really works slick for this kinda of stuff. I did have to laugh at myself though. Not wanting to waste wood on a modular set of cabinets for above my bench I decided to do it in one piece. 90" long x 30" high x 15" deep. Thats a full sheet and more of Melamine plus there are three shelves made of 3/4 MDF.
So anyway, last night, I cleared of the old nasty shelves and took them down. Then unclamped the new cabinets, slid them as close to the bench as I could, grabbed a hold of them and lifted them into place. Sounds simple huh.. Well if they weighed anything less than 100lbs I be darn suprised. Darn good thing I decided to proportion them equaly.. At least they were fairly well balanced. Still lots of sweat running off the brow while I set the first screw into the upper hanger board.Steve - in Northern California
My goodness, Steve, just reading that made my back hurt! The shelves sound great.
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Shelves.... Shelves.... These are cabinets my dear... How dare you insult them by calling them shelves..... LOL.......Steve - in Northern California
Oh my, major "pho paw" as my kitty would say! I'm typing one-handed. Must have been conserving enegy (excuses, excuses). That's like calling the Taj Mahal a house LOL forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Jamie, in order to keep this a virtually perpetual thread I will be updating the first post on a regular basis. This could be fun....Steve - in Northern California
Oh cool, I love perpetual birthdays! Am thinking about starting a virtual gift pile, then I can get anything I want! That Jet jointer may be first in the stack!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Happy Birthday Forest Girl. I will be celebrating mine also.
