Hi,
I’m in the process of purchasing a SawStop ICS here in New Zealand. I’m looking for a decent dado set but the options in NZ are limited, naturally I can get one in from the US but shipping is expensive and what happens of something is wrong with set.
Ideally I would like the dado set to leave a flat bottom, one set that is available is the Forrest Dado King, I’m wondering if anyone out there has had much experience with this set.
From my understanding there are only a certain number of dado sets that can work with the sawstop, the chippers can’t be full blades because of the weight of the set if the brake cartridge goes off. This will rule out the Infinity Dadonator.
Any help in my search would be great as being in NZ it will be impossible to return a set and get money if it wasn’t any good.
Thanks for reading,
Cheers
Taff

I have a Saw Stop PCS and I have used the Freud 8 inch Super Dado set in it for over 10 years. Works great. Don't know if Freud is available in NZ. You will need to buy a different brake cartridge for the dado set and swap it for the regular brake cartridge every time. It only takes a few extra seconds. Good luck.
Hi Taff, I also have the SawStop ICS and use the Freud 8" Super Dado frequently. It works fine, although I have seen somewhere a caution that it's not approved for the Sawstop saw. I believe the rationale is that the nubs (not sure of proper term) just behind the carbide tips on the outer blades that prevent too fast a feed rate may prevent the brake from fully engaging the blade if the brake is tripped. If I ever have to replace the dado set, I'll probably buy the Forrest (top notch quality, no nubs). Good luck with your purchase, you'll love the ICS.
I have a SawStop PCS and have used my Forrest dado set with it extensively. If you need to cut a 3/4" dado, you'll need to leave off the washer that is on a regular saw blade because the spindle is not long enough. I also use a Freud 8" box joint set without issues. They leave a really flat bottom. The only downside is you'll need a dedicated table insert for dadoing and the 8" dado cartridge. My old saw allowed me to make my own zero clearance inserts from wood, not so easy with the SawStop.
Here is what SawStop says on their website.
Any standard steel blade with steel or carbide teeth can be used. You should not use non-conductive blades or blades with non-conductive hubs or teeth (example: diamond blades). They will prevent the SawStop safety system from applying the electrical signal on the blade that is required to sense skin contact. Steel blades and dado sets with a lacquer finish or other coating on the teeth should not be used as the coating may inhibit or slow the speed at which the safety system detects skin contact. However, most coated blades do not cover the blade teeth. Those blades may be used on SawStop saws. Further, blades with depth-limiting shoulders may take longer to stop in the event of an accident than standard blades, and you could receive a more serious injury. Therefore, SawStop recommends using blades without depth-limiting shoulders.
SawStop recommends only using 8” stacked dado sets, with a maximum thickness of 13/16”. “Wobble” dado sets are not recommended, as they may not engage correctly with the dado brake cartridge. Do not use dado sets with solid-plate interior chippers or blades with molding heads, as neither brake cartridge is designed to stop those blade types.
It sounds like you should be OK. Don't forget to get a dado brake and insert for your SawStop.
The saw will not run with the 8" dado and the 10" brake. You will need the dado cartridge.
