Hello all,
I am building a cradle and the ends of the basket portion of the cradle are going to be frame and panel in essence. Toward that end, I did some of my first resawing of 10″ wide paduak with the Jet standard resaw attachment. My skills not being great, I have ended up with panels that are somewhere between 1/4″ and 3/8″. I could leave them at their current thickness (close to 3/8″) or I could plane them down to 1/4″. I am wondering, though, if 1/4″ would be too thin for some reason (structurally liable to break or something). Are 1/4″ panels too thin?
Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

If they are no longer than 18-20 inches I don't see a problem.
Depends, how much and how hard did the kid kick when in the last "cradle"? (i.e., womb) :-P
Sorry, could not resist.
hi MATT 1/4" PANELS DON'T HAVE ENOUGH MASS IN MY OPINION, WHAT i DO ON CABINET DOORS IS TO CUT A RABBET ON A 3/8" TO 1/2" THICK PANEL TO FIT INTO A 1/4" SLOT CREATED BY MY SHAPER CUTERS, THE ADDED MASS OF THE THICKER PANEL MAKES A NICER DOOR , WITH SOME HEFT THAT PEOPLE SEEM TO NOTICE. ONE THING TO REMEMBER IS TO USE A THICKER STILE @ RAIL LIKE 7/8"., 3/4" SOMETIMES ISNOT ENOUGH WHEN USING 1/2" PANELS. THE PANEL WILL PROTRUDE PAST THE STILE AND RAILS ON THE BACK SIDE.
GOOD LUCK MARK CHERRY CABINETS.
