   No need for a plan....

   get a scrap of wood to practice on- cut a 45º angle on one end drill a hole somewhere up the side at 45º

   file it -tune it- play with it- once you got it- get some nice wood and away you go!

   Don't get me wrong- there are plans out there- I just think it will be more fun to knock one out with your own sense of proportion.

   Thanks, Dave.  I didn't realize that it was that simple.  I was thiking that it had to be curved in some way to balance (which I'm sure some people also do, but I didn't realize it was not required).  How thick of a piece of wood do you suggest I use?  I assume the thicker the piece, the more stable it would be?  And I agree that it can be fun (not to mention more a personal gift) to figure it out with trial and error! 

   If anyone else has any suggestions or plans (just to give me some design ideas), I would appreciate hearing from you.  Bill
