Recently I’ve posted my skepticism about using the pilot on the Freud panel raising bits with back cutters instead of a bearing. I need to report that I have used the bit on a arch top panel with success. It does leave the red coating on the panel, but since that will be hidden, it won’t be an issue.
Since I’ve been back and forth with CharlesM on this forum about this issue, I feel I need to confirm what Charles was saying and let everyone know that my worries were for nothing. Use these bits for arched top panels with no worries!

Tim,
Thanks for reporting back on the results. The red on the edge of the panel will likely only occur on the first couple of panels.

Actually it'd be pretty amazing (not good, but amazing) if you could "brand" every piece of wood your bits touched. Heh.
Isnt there supposed to be a replacement for the ft2000e soon.
vertis,The FT2000E is being replaced with the FT2200E which is basically the same router with just a new look. We have also just introduced the FT1700VCE which is a 2-1/4HP fixed base router. These are all shipping now and should be available in time for Christmas ;^). A totally new 3-1/4HP plunge router is in the works that I understand should be out early next year. This will be in addition to the FT2200E and FT1700VCE for a total of three models to choose from.
