I know what you mean. It seems more and more sites are assuming you're on broadband. 'pretty frustrating for us dial-up users (not on dial-up by choice, but because there's no broadband available).
What bugs me the most is those sites that take minutes to load, and then you find out the delay was so that it can play background music. 'pretty dumb.
I agree. There is a link on the main freudtools.com flash animation page that you can click to skip the intro. HTH.Charles M

NO HATE HERE... BUT!
There is a link on the main freudtools.com flash animation page that you can click to skip the intro..
Yes.. BUT FLASH is still loading and you have to wait anyway to click on anything!
Tell your Webmaster to have a startup page.. Click on TEXT or FANCY stuff..
I have broadband but sometimes I just want the facts.. Sometimes the fancy stuff..
I would bet you have lost more than a FEW 'hits' because of FLASH..
I just leave the place if I'm tired of waiting...

Charles, I just looked at Freud's website, after reading Sphere's comment. It took a while to load with ___DSL___. Great graphics. But if you've got a dialup connection -- which I'll point out, most businesses have -- you're pretty well hosed. You folks are probably missing sales because a guy on a dialup starts to load your site and then says "Bag it, I've got better things to do."Which brings up something else. Searching "Freud saws" got dang near every retailer in the world that carries Freud blades -- didn't get the corporate site. Had to search "Freud tools" to find it. You might want to get your sales/web folks clued in.Regards,Leon Jester
Leon and all,
Thanks for all the feedback. I would have presumed that anyone who didn't want to wait would click either the "Skip Intro" or the "Enter Site" links to bypass the flash intro. I guess I was mistaken in that assumption. I'll pass along the comments. Will George,I appreciate your comments. For me the "Skip Intro" link works as soon as the page starts loading without having to wait. Perhaps you are using a browser that behaves differently. Which one did you try it with?Charles M

I'm using Firefox, Charles.I accessed your site around noon today, FWIW as far as traffic goes.I think the problem those with dialup are having is that a goodly amount of the flash has to load first before the "Skip Intro" part is available to them.As I said before, it's cool graphics, but I don't think you need it to sell your stuff, the folks that are buying it aren't looking for a webmaster/designer. I've seen this problem with other sites, i.e., a site is done by a designer/geek that doesn't realize that although it looks really neat, it's not needed for the job.P.S.: I'm a quasi-geek, so I say that without prejudice. Regards,Leon Jester
Yep
The designer takes over, and suddenly it's all about bling bling!
"I'll use this job to sell my next one ..." and the customer comes second.
Guess where the site user comes?
Yep

Alas, I don't have a dial-up connection to test it with ;)I appreciate all the feedback and I hope it will enable us to improve the site. FWIW, I agree that the flash content is a hindrance and wish that I had the power to make changes personally because that would be the first thing to go. I have the index page bookmarked so I never see the animation anymore. For those that wish to skip the intro in the future here's the URL:

Thanks y'all! Ron you reminded me that I didn't give the URL for the Freud Canada website:

Charles, I'll say it again -- having a rep that responds to questions and problems, then passes info back to admin, is quite an asset to the woodworking community.Thank you again for the time and effort you devote to the community.Regards,Leon Jester
I've bookmarked that as well. Thanks Charles.

hi Leon,
Can you tell me, as a dumb ole country boy, what is this FLASH thing you all are talking about.
I use Fire Fox very happily now, after I. Explorer almost turned me into a dribbling lunatic, also have broadband.
Cheers.
Flash is a programming tool that allows a webmaster to put a video or animation onto a website. It's very memory intensive, the files are very large and if you're on a dialup connection, it can take a long time to load.Macromedia (http://www.macromedia.com/) markets what's probably the best type of this kind of programming. You can download a flash reader from them.Regards,Leon Jester
