Good Day everyone,
Can anyone tell me if the freud sd-608 fits on a right tilt delta unisaw? I’ve read that it is to wide for a number of machines.
As an aside, I just called Freud’s customer service(800 #) and was told they don’t have a list of saws it fits. When I asked why not ,I was told it would be to costly to compile such a list.It seems to me that for the price they’re asking for the dado set they might want to be able to tell people what it fits on.The first thing that came to mind was what if a newby goes out and buys one and then puts it on his saw without it being properly seated or tightened!!! Anyway ,I think this is a real black eye for Freud customer service.
Thanks for listening to the rant,
Brent

To use that dado, an arbor length of 1 1/8" plus the thickness of the nut is required if you want to get the full width that the dado is capable of.
As far as I know, there is no restriction on right or left tilt saws. But, most contractor saws will not accomodate this dado.
Brent,
Instead of asking them for a list of saws the dado set would fit, which would be hard given the number of different saws in the world, why not just ask how long the arbor needs to be to mount the set in its widest configuration?
Actually if you think about it, the Delta Unisaw is one of the most common table saws ever made, there must be hundreds of thousands of them in use. I can't conceive of Freud making a dado set that wouldn't fit the Delta, without at least warning buyers that the blade set wouldn't fit such a common saw. Also if the set wouldn't fit the Unisaw, it probably wouldn't fit on any 10 inch table saw since most cabinet saws a fairly similar in design.

Hi John,
Apparently it's not just the length of the arbor, but also the diameter of the flange that matters.I'm asking people because I'm near the store but not near my shop right now.I agree that it would be foolish to make a blade that didn't fit a unisaw, but when I asked if it did fit a unisaw they could'nt even give me an answer to that.Given the fact,as you say, that there are alot of them out there, you'd think they'd know at least about this saw

brent,
Sorry if you feel slighted by our customer service dept. It's not really a matter of cost as much as having to be responsible for maintaining a list of specs on every saw ever made and the changes that are made at any time.
To answer your question, the SD600 series was specifically engineered around the Delta right tilt Unisaw and will mount without any problem. The formula for arbor length is:
Maximum dado width of the SD600 is equal to:
Arbor length - nut thickness - 7/32"
If this amount exceeds the manufacturer's stated maximum dado you need to abide by their width.

Charles,
Thanks for the info. It's not that I felt slighted, it's that I felt the manufacturer should have been able to give me the info considering the make and model of saw.I would have understood if it was a no-name brand.
That said, thank you for the quick attention to my problem and I will be returning to my dealer on Saturday to pick up the dado set

do you have an authorized sharpening service to renew our sd-608's that you can reccommend ??? at the recent woodworking show in timonnium maryland your rep indicated that freud did not resharpen dado's !!!
We don't offer sharpening but any qualified sharpener should be able to service the SD608. The grind is not extremely complicated and they can swap the dial hub assembly from the outside saw with the blank plate from the inside saw to locate the blades.Charles M
