   Try amber shellac, also known as orange shellac. If brushing , cut the shellac to a

   1 1/2 lb. cut. Apply as many coats as neccesary to achieve desired finish. Usually 3 or 4 coats is enough.Sand lightly with 320 grit between coats. I have never fumed anything, I thought that oak was the only wood that could be fumed. I suggest that you may get better answers on a finishing NG.

   What makes fuming work is the interaction of the ammonia with the tannins in the wood.  Oak has high levels of tannins, pine does not.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl   ;-)

   Hope your client isn't expecting the flecks (rays) she sees in oak!  Is she just hankerin' after the overall tone of fumed oak?  I'd want to be absolutely sure she knows what she's getting before finishing the piece.

   hey pal - hope you hollerdazes we're better than ok, yeah we talked about that , there going to be alot of samples i thinks.... the general richness is what we're shooting for. this piece is to go into existing serious country kitchen kinda motif with all the bells and whistles. kinda like a english country ashbourne antique pine look( jeez i'm running out of adjectives). but from what i'm learning here. between orange shellac, strong black tea, etc . i might be trying some alternatives. here's another thought, buying some tannic acid( really the ultimate strong tea) dilute it spray it down, sand it . fume it, than orange shellac it. i really want to give this fuming thing ago... after all it all about the unknown is'nt.... cheers pal best to all

   "english country ashbourne antique pine look" ---   hmmmmmm, that might fit on the big cans, but not on the small ones.  HaHa.  Let us know how it goes!

   Hi,

   Not sure of the difference - we are GMT +10 hours (actually 11 at the moment with daylight savings time).  If you know what your offset is for GMT (-6 maybe) you could work it out.  I noted the forestgirl tag - our forests are on fire here at the moment.

   Hi Nick, very sorry to hear about the forest fires.  I've been watching a bit of tennis lately and saw last night that one of the reasons they closed the roof at the Rod Lever (sp?) stadium was because of the smoke.  It look pretty bad.

   Great tennis though!  I'm not normally a fan, but the match between Clister (sp? again) and Serena was edge-of-the-seat, and I'm looking forward to watching Agassi and the German (won't even try to spell his name).  Agassi gives us old folk a morale boost!  Between him and 40-year-old Jerry Rice being in the Super Bowl, we're kickin' a$$.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl   ;-)

   I hear they use nitric acid to etch glass. I suspect it will do more than that to your skin .... and anything else it gets on! (grin)

   try this, just finished the drawer outlined with 7/8 half round, and the 5/4 by 6 shelf on the bottom with 2 1/8 space 9 of those and a 4/4 half round recessed 3/16 under the apron. the drawer slides and table top on monday and tuesday..... thanks again budd .....slainte
