This is just an extension of the Oh Dear Dovetails, but I am sure some of those who joined in realized it equally provided a means of cutting finger joints by hand. The illustration shows only two fingers (which perhaps is better than one) but I have used the same stuff as was used for dovetails.
Does anyone know how to attract the attention of editors re possible articles, apart from launching ideas into the black hole for months at a time?

assume at least one year from your first submittal to it actually being published, if they like it/you
I submitted a jig for the tip section of FWW, and this was accepted for publication - and I was paid - all of at least a year ago. However, it has yet to be published. That bothers me since I feel that I cannot show pictures of it, nor discuss it, and I consider that there are many woodworkers that will greatly appreciate it. In fact, I have come up with a Mk II version, which runs along the same lines, but has more advanced construction (metal for wood - it is aimed at the woodworker that is prepared to do a little metalwork). I feel uncomfortable discussing the Mk II as well since it is based on Mk I. I wonder if there is a time constraint on all this?

What does the contract/release say?
Since the house is on fire let us warm ourselves. ~Italian Proverb
Derek, I did not express my original query well. I take your point, it is a bit like buying the opposition to silence them, O K an exageration, but if your ideas are good you want to share them now.
My thought was that acceptance or rejection, I just do not see why any potential contributor should not receive a yea or nay in principle after, say, three weeks of submission. That would keep enthusiasm alive and allow submission to other outlets.
The prospect of posthumous plaudits is positively perturbing.
I agree. I did write after a month since I had not received acknowledgement of receipt. An email came back to say:
We have a two-month review cycle for our Methods of Work department, so it
will be another month before I have an answer for you.
I think that FWW contacted me about 3 months later.

Thanks for that. We ought to be able to influence these editors in this respect since they do need to sell their product. Popwoods comes up with a message to the effect that if you do not hear within four months, then they are unlikely to use the suggestion!
Having been raised in an ethos of not just going through the motions, but considering the views and expectations of those I have dealings with, I find this present system untenable. I do not suppose any contributor is in measurable profit after the work involved and the publications would benefit from a more pro-active approach.
