I haven’t finished furniture or cabinets in years. However, now that I’ve made SWMBO a set of bathroom cabinets, it’s time to finish them – she wants white, gloss.
Not quite yet ready to throw $900+ at an HVLP setup plus maybe $200 more for a DIY spray booth, so I’ve elected to paint the cabinets with Sherwin Williams Pro Classic oil enamel, primered first with SW’s oil based Wood and Wall.
The problem that I’ve run into is finding furniture finish quality brushes at my local paint supplier, hardwar store, or big box store (Lowes). The best that I can find at any of these sources (Purdy Pro Classic) are about half the thickness of my old, regretably now decrepit brushes from the dim past. The chisel points are uneven – like unto formed by someone wielding an ax, etc, etc, yada yada yada.
If any of you are still using brushes to apply finish, where do you find decent brushes?

Jeff Jewitt's site http://www.homesteadfinishing.com sells some.

The chisel points are supposed to be uneven, half flagged-half tipped. This is how it holds as much paint as the older brushes.
You can also use a badger hair or mink hair brush for the best of finishes, though they'll set you back some dollars. Available at artist stores.
