I hate building what I consider pieces of fine furniture and then putting these dumb felt stick on pads on the foot of a chair or table etc so it doesn’t scratch the floor, does anyone have any “finer” suggestions for the contact points between furniture and the floor??

Hate the scratches AND hate having to use felt as well...some applications worse than others. I recently built a bench with four rectangular foot contact points/feet measuring about 3/4" × 2". I had some cork rubber lying around and decided to cut some pieces for feet bottom and apply with Spectape. Worked very well thus far and low profile. I believe it is 1/16" - bought from McMaster Carr. They have alot of thicknesses available - it might be worth looking into as an option.
I have used the nail-on versions. Not much better aesthetically though.
Perhaps you could 'fine' it up a bit by using thicker felt and recessing it into the leg?
Alternatively, an inset leather piece would do the job just as well. If you are feeling really fancy, you could probably fold thin leather over some 2mm MDF and create your own super pads.
I've used thick leather discs. I'm not sure they work better than felt -- or even as good -- but they strike people as being super fancy.
For the felt disc's, those from Lee Valley are the best I've found.
