I’ve heard of The Philadelphia Furniture and Furnishings Show and would love to make it someday. Last November I was able to attend SOFA at Navy Pier in Chicago. There were live demonstrations of wood turning and lots of fine art, however, very little furniture. I’d love to find out about other shows and venues to see the works of fine furniture craftsmen, especially in the mid-west. Are there such events?

I think you should start reading magazines like http://www.americancraft.com. There's also several other magazine dedicated to the crafts I can't think of the names off hand vut they are dedicated to promoting your work at cragt shows so they list all the shows going on. There are other magazines in Europe and Canada with a similar focus.

Also read Metropolis, Dwell, Interior Design. Even look at clay and jewelry magazines for shows.

The Fine Furnishings Show Milwaukee will be the 29th and 30th of Sept. This will be the 2nd yr and from what I hear the Show is filled. It's at the Airline center downtown Milwaukee. A lot of diversity in styles and woods.
Thanks for the dates on the Milwaukee show. I'll try to make it. I remember reading something about it a while back. That's great that it's already filled. There must be a good audience for it. I'm relatively new to woodworking so I figured there were shows like this around that I just hadn't heard about.
I went to The Philadelphia Furniture Show a few years ago and found it very informative. I wanted to find out how well the furniture was made by the pros versus mine. I saw a lot of really nice furniture and met some nice people as well. I came to the conclusion that I need to spend more time on sanding and finishing my pieces before I have a chance to go pro. For the money it was definitely worth the trip.
