Im going toschool for Cabinetmaking/Finish Carpentry. One thing I want to do is learn about all the styles of furniture making. Does anyone know of some good books about furniture styles and the history of furniture styles. Im looking for types of styles and what is different about each one, and maybe some pictures included. Basically I want an extensive knowledge about styles. Also, do you know of any good websites or maybe software?

I would highly recommend this book. Great color photos.
Furniture: World Styles From Classical to Contemporary
by Judith Miller

I have a number of books including Nutting. Millers book gives the most extensive period history in general and the photos are well worth it. I've got some others that cover a similar period but no where nearly as extensive and the other books have line drawings. Miller is an antique expert with many other published books and the nice thing about this one is it's really new and goes beyond the short comings of previous publications. The problem with the other books is they are only American styles or only a set period. Miller goes back from Greek furniture to very modern.
I assume you want to know more than just American styles! If so then the Miller book will fit your need.

"Four Centuries of American Furniture" by Oscar P. Fitzgerald. Published by Wallace-Homestead book Co. is a good reference. Also "The New Fine Points of Furniture Early American" by Albert Sack published by Crown Publishers, Inc. is a gem.

I agree with another poster: Four Centuries of American Furniture is a very good book.
I cant find my copy right now but you should be able to do a search and find this book.
Wallace Nutting athored several books on furniture, he even built quite a few pieces.
