I’d like to make the Simple Banjo from FWW#53. A friend made one years ago but I seem to remember that he was really bummed out when the next issue came out with a few corrections on the measurements for the frets. I don’t have #53 or #54 but I bought the ‘FWW On Things To Make’ book from Ebay. This book has the article, but I want to make sure it has the correct fret measurements before I make the same mistake my friend did.
Has anyone here made this instrument? Would someone with the relevent issues take a look for me? Thanks in advance,
Steven

I'd like to make the Simple Banjo .. NOTHING SIMPLE about a banjo I would think..
Just a old wood worker with a tin ear..
Can you get a Pitch pipe or do you have the ear for it?? Some new electronic stuff works NICE!..
Build to what you like.. Leave the frets off.. Ya have to make them and just position with hot glue.. Adjust and mark as necessary..
Gee I thought it was a good idea!
There is a fairly simple formula for calculating fret positions, although I don't actually know what it is; but you can find out where to find it at http://www.mimf.com (and answer tons of other questions, too; it's a great site for anyone wanting to build a musical instrument.)

Steven, I found the "erratum" in Issues #54. As follows:
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)

Thanks, FG. I now know the article in the book has the correct measurements but I didn't want to get started until I had double checked. Steven
In case anyone else is interested in this article, it's available in the Fine Woodworking Archive. Ruth DobsevageTaunton New Media
