Can anyone shed some light on the relationship (if any still exists) between FWW and Taunton Press? Was looking for an updated copy of R. Bruce Hoadley’s Understanding Wood and couldn’t find it on either the FWW site or Taunton Press site. What with the sales of FWW and Taunton Press, I suspect some/many of the older books have been discontinued. FWIW I did find a copy at Barnes and Noble. Thanks!

There are several on ebay, and some on amazon with the tag "completely revised and updated" on the cover.
Fine Woodworking is now owned by Active Interest Media. Taunton Books was recently acquired by Abrams.

I don't think Hoadly's books will ever go out of print. It might just be a transition issue right now.
I don’t know if this is the appropriate thread, but it’s current, so
maybe someone will notice this post. Several questions/issues:
1 - I recently gave my brother a subscription to “Fine Woodworking” for a birthday gift. Perhaps someone could explain the five dollar difference between a gift and a regular subscription.
2 - I routinely receive notices/updates/newsletters from “Fine Woodworking” to my email address. This address is uniquely mine. Why should I then be told that without signing in again, I am limited to the number of articles/videos that I can view?
3 - For some reason I needed to call customer service. I live abroad and called the international number. The wait time was very long and a call back was offered. But the call back does not permit entry of the necessary digits. International area codes can contain two or three numbers.
I can't explain your specific issues however my experience was similar:
I had paid for a membership, and for months, even being logged in and verifying my membership status, it was as if I was NOT a member. I couldn't view articles, always prompted to sign up, etc.
This went on for months, during which I emailed over and over to no avail. I also called, and it was difficult to reach someone. When I did, they said everything was as it should be and offered no assistance.
Eventually, randomly, my account began working as it should...
FWW's operation is set up in an extraordinarily clunky, frustrating manner for the people making their existence possible.
Their support is abysmal, and their site is consistently bugged.
Goodluck with your issues is sadly all i can say. You will likely need it.
