Has anyone out there purchased a Gabardi & Son hand plane (www.gabardiandson.com)? I purchased one last summer and paid for it in full, via Pay Pal, at the time of purchase. I was promised the plane in 8-12 weeks. It has been over a year and I still don’t have a plane. I don’t mind the wait but the planemaker, Matt Hodgson (801-652-3999) won’t return my phone calls or emails. I’m afraid I may never see my plane and have lost my money. Wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and want to warn all potential customers.

I've heard of them but don't know anyone who has purchased their planes. One year is too long to wait especially if they told you 8 -12 weeks and won't return your phone calls. You may want to check PayPal's buyers policy to see if you can get your money back but being as long as it has, you may have to take them to court. You may also want to post this at http://www.Woodnet.net under the Handtool forum if you haven't already. There are a lot of people over there that get into buying premium hand planes. Maybe someone knows Gabardi himself that can shed some light on the situation.
Nevertheless anybody who takes a customers money and doesn't stay in contact with them or return their phone calls doesn't deserve to be in business. Next time you're in the market for a premium plane, check out Brese planes. I used one at a woodworking show and it works wonders.

I contacted Chris Gochnour, from The Joiners Bench, who reviewed a Gabardi plane in Fine Woodworking. He was able to conract Gabardi for me. I received an email this afternoon explaining the situation and I am completely satisfied. The plane maker had a family emergency. Thanks for your response. I'll be checking out woodnet.net and Brese planes in the mean time.
Best regards, Tom
