gaps between table leaves

I notice that several months after completing a an extension table, that I see uneven gaps between the 2 halves and the leaves. Typically, tight in the centre, 1/32″ gap at the edges. I’ve heard about a technique to prevent this. Anyone know?

Other than sealing both the top and the bottom, I don’t think there is a solution, and even then some movement is to be expected. I’d be willing to bet that this summer the situation will correct itself, only to return next year.
