Hello all,
I recently purchased one of these planers. I’m having trouble getting short, thin stock to feed through without getting stuck or sniping the ends. I’m thinking maybe I have the pressure bar set to low or maybe it is tensioned to high. I’m not really sure of the pressure bars purpose either as my previous planer (Delta DC 380) does not have one, or maybe it does and I’m just not aware of it.
Thanks,

I have lots of general experience, but no General experience, so I'm guessing here. First, if the length of the stock isn't equal to, or greater than the distance between the infeed and outfeed rollers, it's likely to get stuck in the middle. Next, snipe is often a function of alignment on either or both the infeed or outfeed supports. Good vertical alignment on both sides can often minimize or eliminate snipe, but not always. Infeed and outfeed rollers also function as "pressure bars," pressing the stock against the interior platform. A cupped board, for example, will be flattened on the infeed, reduced in thickness, passed to the outfeed, and then will spring back to a cupped state. It sounds like your General has an additional bar to do, or assist with this function. I have no idea what the proper adjustment procedure would be, though.
Thanks
I found a few good articles in the archives after I posted this. I'm gathering that this machine is just very accurate and thus requires very accurate set-up. No slop in this puppy, It will do exactly as I tell it... it's kind of scary that way.
