I was wondering if anyone would have an idea how the General Canada cabinet saw would compare to the Delta Unisaw. (Price, fit and finish, quality of construction)

General's trunions are beefier casting. The overall fit and finish is superior. I'm not sure about tolerances but it's a no brainer. Go for General. I own General, INCA,and Oliver. This kind of quality pays for itself in daily use.

The latest X5 Uni's I've looked at have had good fit and finish but the General 350/650 seem to be beefier built with a more massive trunion and thicker gauge steel in the cabinet. General does their castings in house and mounts the cast iron extension wings at the factory- on every example I've seen the wings have been dead even. Fwiw the latest X5 Uni's use a Brazilian sourced WEG motor and iirc General uses a Baldor. In my area there's a $300 to $400 price difference between the two.
IMO, there is no comparison....with a few exceptions, Delta stuff hasn't been great for a long time, and some of it now is very poor. General is very dependable. There are one or two Delta machines I would buy, and I have several here in my school shop.....I'm also running 20+ General machines between here and my own shop (including 3 General 350's and a 650, and a larger General saw). I just think they are the best machines in their class, and the quality seems to be very consistent.Cabinetmaker/college woodworking instructor. Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
