I am finishing a project with the GF EF PolyAcrylic Water Based finish in Satin and am having a small problem. The test boards were sealed with several coats of shellac then I brushed on a coat of the WB then sanded with 320, then brushed another coat, sanded with 400 then brushed on two more coats. The finish ‘looks’ perfect but is slightly textured when touched. It is minor texture but entirely uniform over the surface. It can be sanded off with 400-600 grit with little effort but I am trying to get the satin look and feel off the brush. Is this standard texture for either WB finishes or for Satin WB finishes? It is not fisheye or orange peel or any other major problem, it really feels like the texture is in the finish and it was the same for every coat I applied. I will try thinning the finish tomorrow about 10-20% with water to see if that helps but it does not appear to be a flow out problem as the finish looks to flow out well during drying. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Craig

Yeah, I tried it and got the same result. Fortunately, I tested it on scrap, so I just chucked the can and used a different product on the furniture.
try using a disposable foam brush, I find this best for that product. Don't work it too much, or you will get bubbles which could affect your level of finish.
You can also put on an extra coat, sand with 1000 grit, 2000, 4000, then buff it out if you really want a smooth finish.
The finish 'looks' perfect but is slightly textured when touched.
Geee You want it better? Why? Sort of funnin you but if it looks good maybe a modified French Polish would level it??.. Hard to tell but seems to me the wood was not as 'FLAT' as you would like before finishing..
(but entirely uniform over the surface) Not sure I understand.. Small difference in the way soft and hard grain in the wood takes the finish??
I would let the finish 'cure' some time (as long as possible) and do another coat with a foam brush....
Maybe the finish is raising the grain & isn't being leveled completly, coupled with the 'die back' of the WB finish when it cures.. Maybe grain filler would help out some.
