I am thinking of buying a tilting head General mortiser (75 – 075M1). I like the idea of a tilting head better than a tilting table. It also seems to me that if I buy a drill chuck for it then I will also have a tilting head drill press. Does anyone have any experience with this machine?

Hi Jim. I have the non tilting head GI. As with most other people you probably won't like it much if you try out a horizontal mortiser. I basically don't even use mine anymore, more or less a waste of money. The mortiser comes with a chuck in it but you may need slightly longer than normal bits. It wouldn't be as versatile as a drill press because the throat depth is not there and no variable speeds. Peter
