Good evening, I am in the market for a new cabinet saw. A friend handed me a Tool Crib catalog and in it there is a Delta cabinet saw for only $1299. It is not called a “Unisaw” and is missing some details such as the fence hanger brackets on the side. It comes with a 50 inch Biesemeyer fence. I could not determine from the Delta web site much differance between this and a Unisaw but they make it hard to compare specs. Does anyone know why this saw is so much less expensive than a “Unisaw”? Thank you , John D

It's that little label on the side "Made in Taiwan". Couldn't tell you about the quality; haven't seen one in person.
Having talked to some of the Delta folks at the AWFS show last year, they were revamping some of the old line since thebig launch of x5 series. The Amazon catalog saw is the right tilt and has the old motor cover, and the old dust floor. I understood it to be a means to box Jet in two ways. But, support is questionable, since the new saws are everywhere. I believe they have a shorter warranty than the x5 also. Good luck!

Phillips Bros. Supply in Buffalo, NY advertised the 36-830A/LA Unisaw for USD1299 in their winter flyer http://www.philippsbros.com. I think Woodworkers Supply has similar pricing. This is a 3HP, single phase machine with a 30 inch unifence, a single cast iron wing and the mdf extension table. I have one and really like it. Some times wish I had sprung for the model with the Biesemeyer fence, but haven't felt any meaningful limitations with this saw yet.
This thread http://forums.taunton.com/tp-knots/messages?msg=15914.1 contains information/advice that others on this forum provided to me on pricing not that long ago. I found all of the info very useful in comparison shopping.
Made in the US and came with a 2 year warranty.

I think the $1200.00 saw has a different trunion assy than the unisaw. Hard to tell from the info given on the sites though.

Delta's website offers a full parts lists/exploded drawigs for most of their machines - very easy to print out two models you are comparing and check them part for part as well as overall construction.
Thanks for the suggestions, the saw in the Tool Crib catalog is called a 36-732. Soon as I get a chance I will try to compare the parts lists.
