I was installing some heavy duty drawer slides yesterday and due to handling got some of the lubricant from the slide on a spot on the front of the drawer. Not a big spot. It’s only birch ply, but now it has a noticeable stain. Anybody have any ideas for removing the grease spot. I thought of mineral spirits, but not sure.

Bones,
Don't use mineral spirits, it will just thin the oil and spread it farther. Try to find, at a supermarket or a hardware store, a spray can of a fabric spot remover called K2R, it's in a blue and white can.
K2R is a mix of a dry cleaning solvent and finely powdered silica. When you spray it on, the solvent will thin out the grease and the layer of silica on the surface of the wood will wick up the grease and the solvent. After the solvent evaporates, you can brush away the dry silica powder and the trapped grease with it. You can repeat the process a few times if needed.
After using the spray, wait a few days to see if some of the grease that was possibly deeper in the wood comes to the surface, if it does repeat using the spray to remove it.
I've seen K2R work miracles on grease stained fabrics, I think it will work better than anything else on wood.
Hope this helps, John W.
Thanks, I'll look for it.
