getting that gotta have twitch again
hello, my names Tyler and im a toolaholic.
its been about 2 months since my last big purchase and im really starting to feel the twitch.
im in the mood to buy a few new shop machines and was wondering if some of yall might give me an opinion or 2 on some items. the good the bad the ugly. keep in mind, i will only buy good stuff but i cant afford the $5000 glue spreader, if you get my drift.
my ‘gotta have it’ list is as follows
vertical panel saw
thickness or double drum sander
new floor stand thickness planer
fancy mitre guage
table slide.
hot red head or brunette.
i thanks yall fur your input in advance

regarding the tools
I would trade in the 44" preformax for 2 of the 22"
that could go for the redhead also.
my opinion the drum sander is what I would get.

if you are having an argument with an idiot, it take to to have an argument.
Rather than the panel saw, miter guage, and the table slider, why don't you sell your current table saw, and buy a new Felder or Laguna or Altendorf with a nice sliding table on it...you can kill 4 birds with one stone.
PS. I'm a toolaholic too...Thankfully, my shop has no more room for new tools--FOR NOW!...
Good luck

that is an outstanding idea. do you have one of these bad boys or do you know anyone who has one. i have done a bit of surfing and nobody around here stocks any so i cant really see one . i have seen them in mags but have always wondered of there worth it. i think FWW did a review awhile back does any one know when that might have been?
laguna happens to deliver to 2 places monthly up here above the 49th and it just happens to be only 20 minutes from here. maybe i can go look at one.Tmaxxx

Tmaxxx, you could come to the Northwest Knots Fest on Saturday and take a look at Tom's Minimax combo machine with sliding table! C'mon now, it's not a very long drive from Vancouver. It's in the Fremont area of Seattle, a straight shot down I-5. If you want to come, drop me an email and I'll send you the details!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)

Well, I'm married, so I'd go with the drum sander over the red head. ;)
You're lucky to live in Vancouver; I love that town and am looking forward to spending 3 nights there next week. My goal is to spend as much time in the Irish Heather Pub in Gastown as I can. Most authentic Irish pub outside of the Emerald Isle I've found. ;)
yeah i love it here too. where u from and what are you coming to this corner for? im leaving hrer in a week to go to thunderbay for about a month or so for a project. it will be nice to see some more of the country.
does anyone know what the differences in capabilities between a drum sander and a wide belt sander? or are they basically different versions of the same tool. can a drum sander snipe like a planer?Tmaxxx

Tyler,
I must say that I to must get that tool fix often or else............. I really like my Jet 10" left tilt Table saw, pound for pound and dollar for dollar there is a lot of bang for your buck. The Powermatic Model 15 planer is also very nice,a friend has one of these and it will do every thing you ask it to do. This is on my wish list. The rest I am not to sure on as of yet but working on it , with exception of the Redhead , She makes a Kick a** martini (vodka) (Shaken) and and even better cup of fresh ground French roast. One after all cancels out the other, most of the time anyway. Gday from Wisconsin. Rick.
And don't drink that martini before going into the shop...
Measure it with a micrometer, mark it with chalk, cut it with an ax.
Put the hot red head and/or brunette at the end of your list, after all your tools are acquired. They'll find a way to drain your tool budget....
Take a long look at the miter gauges if you're seriously thinking about buying one. I fooled around with a new Jessum and was really disappointed, the amount of play with the pins inserted seemed to be almost a half a degree. After seeing their router tables and lifts I was expecting great things but unless the one at Woodcraft is a fluke save your money.

"fancy miter gauge" -- Incra 1000SE. Best value and solid performer.
