I’m making a trophy that consists of a crystal vase on a mahogany base. What’s the best adhesive to attach the vase to the base? It might be nice to be able to remove the vase at a later date.

Clear silicone works well and remains softish .

There are also a few differents mixes of hot glue that have a great hold and are reversable- I've had good luck with a variety of materials that needed a strong but temporary hold.

If removeability (is that a word?) is desirable, you might want to simply go with some museum sticky wax. This is a non-drying wax that is commonly used to hold artifacts in place on a shelf. A common brand is (I think) Holds-It. Any good art supply store should carry it. This stuff won't damage the glass in any way but it may leave a slight stain on the wood. The wax itself is easily removed.

There is a special glass to wood adhesive available from Craft Supplies USA, Woodturners catalog. I have not used it, but it sounds like a winner,
