I have recently started using a Glue Bot bottle. It seems to be a good product and I like the way that it dispenses glue better than the manufacturers bottle. For any of those who use one, what do you do when it comes to adding glue. Do you just pour the new glue on top of what is in the bottle? Wait until the bottle is almost empty then rinse out the remaining glue and start fresh. Titebond is supposed to have a shelf life of a year so adding new glue on top of old glue does not seem like a great idea. Thanks.

I've used Titebond a lot older than a year. Pour the new glue in with the old.
I just add to it and then shake it, then finish topping it off. Have had no problem
First off I try to buy my glue from sources that do high volume , at Your local hardware it could have been on the shelf for a very long time. I buy gallons ,write a date on it and decant to smaller bottles. I keep it in a cool spot where it doesn't get alot of light. I do toss it if I think its old or use it on less critical stuff. If you refill your glue bottle from a larger container and if the" old" glue came from the same larger container then it's the same stuff, same age. With that type of glue bottle your talking about the glue you use is the stuff that is on the bottom first so the "old" glue gets used first. I find that it's better to keep the plastic bottles topped up, it helps prevent, or slows down at least, the glue from skinning up inside the bottle.
Good points, thanks. I'm with you on buying from a source that does a high volume. I don't buy gallon bottles unless I have a project that I know is going to use a lot all at once. I had not focused on the point (duhhh!) that with the glue bot bottle the old glue is the first glue out because of the bottle design. A good point.
I tend to be on the paranoid side of these things. I haven't done this myself but if I were doing it, I would end up rinsing it out when nearly empty before refilling it. Is that overkill? I don't know but probably. Then again, by the time I get to glue up, I've got a lot of time invested in the piece so I'd rather reduce risk when it is relatively easy to do so. Not saying I am right here. Rather, the piece of mind it provides me and the relatively little extra expense, I'm ok doing it this way.
My thinking exactly.
