A 6×3 oval mirror should be glued with what to the wood? Do I glue the entire back surface or a stip in the middle to ensure that the wood can move and not get subsequent glue seperation from the mirror?

Maybe one of these would help
You could put these around the edges

and or
put some of this glue, (or similar brand/type ) but just an inch or so, in the center of the mirror.

Advantage being this stuff stays pliable for easier removal if there were anyway to replace the mirror component if broken. Allows the wood to move at a different rate to the mirror but holds the mirror from rattling or sliding around.
It would be great to see a photo or two during the construction or when done.

I've used mirror mastic from CR Laurence with no problems -

Yep, mirror mastic. Blob in the middle,it will squish out to a disc shape and remains a bit pliable.
