Hello,
I am building a king sized bed, with the headboard mostly being a single 1/2″ walnut veneer plywood panel. The plywood is veneered on both sides. The upper and lower cross pieces surrounding the panel are 2″ x 2″ square solid walnut. The will be M&T jointed into the 2 3/4″ square leg posts. I was going to cut a 1/2″ deep slot into the frame to hold the plywood. Am I safe gluing the plywood into the slot all the way around? Or should I let it float free? I am assuming that gluing the panel in would make it stronger, but could cause problems as the wood shifts with the seasons. I understand that plywood is very stable.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

As long as the plywood is glued into long grain solid wood on all sides, there will be no problems. It will, in fact, make for a much stronger assembly.
You can glue it all around and sleep well.
