Gary,
I have a hard time getting to you. I posted two messages and this will be the third. For some reason the system didnt post the first. hence the 2nd and now maybe the third will be a charm
Im about to glue up a cherry headboard about 65’x25′ madeu up from three planks. How do I insure a real tight glue line?
Also, can you comment on using planer sled to face rough boards too big for the jointer.

Jabe,
First check Fine Woodworking #166, Dec. 2003 for my article, Gluing Up Tabletops. It will give you a nice overview of the entire process.
You’ll need to edge join your boards with a hand plane or jointer to get straight, flat, and square edges suitable for gluing. Make sure that there is no hump or high spots along the edge and that it is flat along its length or slightly hollow. This spring in the joint will help hold the ends tightly together.
Use straight clamps on a flat table and a good yellow glue to glue up. If you’re right handed, use left handed clamping pressure when you glue up. You should use enough glue that you get some squeeze-out when you clamp up.
As for wide boards, I use my hand plane to rough out and flatten one surface and then run them through the planer. If you use a sled, just make sure that your board can’t rock in it or move in any way. Be patient as this method can take lots of passes to get one face flat.
And as for asking questions on the web, the only way I receive your question is if you find the right button to push on the site to send me the query. Otherwise it just bounces around somewhere in etherspace like your first two attempts. It took me lots of tries to find my own way around so don’t feel alone in this. Thanks and good luck. Gary
Gary,
Thank You. I have that issue and will pull it out of the pile. I did always use a hand plane to flat face my large boards but I thought those of you in the "business" had to have a quicker more productive way.
Have a vey Merry Christmas and Healthy New Year

Jabe,
I do. It's called a 12" jointer. Check around your area. Someone has got one. Good luck. Gary
