nearly finished! I’m working on a box to hold the flag from my grandfather’s casket for my aunt. One touch I’m working on is embedding 2 coins (he was a coin collector) into the frame – a 1922 and a 2008 for his birth and death. But what glue to use? Can I just use Krazy Glue or do I need something special?
Materials: Penny, cherry (with a shellac washcoat and finished with danish oil)
Thanks for the advice!!
Matt

In addition to the glue, I would suggest using a forstner bit to make a shallow recess for the coin.

thanks DG - have already made the recess with the forstner bit... interesting note here, I had myself convinced i needed to go to Lee Valley or Rockler for a special bit... but an american penny's 3/4" - so I didn't even get to buy a new bit :-(
Because of the finish I would use a dab of epoxy as it will stick to most anything. Only my opinion.
Mr B - any example of an appropriate epoxy?
Thanks!
Matt
For projects like this I use a 5 minute epoxy that I get at the Ace Hardware. ( Ace brand) it comes in a tube and is two part and as you press the plunger the two components come out simutaneously in the right proportion so you only have to mix them with a small stick.
Matt,
Epoxy, polyurethane or CA will all work. As an aside, I once has a special coin (nickel colour) with a red center. I used CA to secure it, and the CA separated the red "decal" from the coin.

I used silicone to attach a small (3") mirror to a wooden handle. The silicone is flexible enough so wood movement wasn't a factor . Not you get a lot of movement in 3". Although I have dropped it into the water about 50 times.
