I’m planning to make a picture frame of bloodwood and am wondering if anyone has thoughts on the best glue to use. I made a frame of rosewood and I believe I used epoxy. The result was good, but I really dislike using epoxy. Anyone have some experience with this wood?

Bloodwood doesn't seem to be as resinous as the rosewoods generally are. I've glued small pieces using good ol' Titebond III without difficulty. Of course, I haven't exactly thrown them around the room afterwards. A mitered picture frame is about the harshest test of a glue's tenacity that there is. (I'd use a spline or V-nail....)

Jean,
Bloodwood glues about as well as any wood out there. Any good pva glue should work. If moisture is a problem, use titebond II or III. Otherwise, Elmer's, etc. Just be sure you use a good dust mask or respirator and long sleeves when you machine it until you know it won't cause a alergic reaction. It's a really nice wood.

Thanks for your insight. I'll go ahead with "regular" glue but will certainly use splines as this is a large heavy frame.
Jean,
What are you building with it? Post some pictures when you're done.

I'm just making a picture frame now. However, it really is beautiful wood and I like the way it cuts, etc., so I'm sure I will find another project before long. Thanks for your interest.Jean
