Hi All,
First time here… I was curious if there are any special considerations when gluing mesquite. Is it like teak where you must wipe the mortise and tennon with acetone?
Thanks,
Phil

Phil,
I have never tried to glue mesquite. The only experience I have had with it is to split lots of it for fire wood. It is not all waxy like teak and should not require any solvent wash in preparation for gluing.

Hi Rich,Thanks for the opinion. I am leaning that way too. I can't make firewood out of this 8/4 board some 17" wide...wife wants a coffee table... :)
The "advice" to use a solvent on oily woods prior to glue-up is suspect, anyway. It probably only results it bringing additional oil from deeper fibers to the surface. A freshly-jointed surface (no less than 24 hours and preferably within an hour) is the very best preparation for any gluing operation.

Mesquite is not oily, and glues quite nicely with PVA without any special prep.
Hi Jamie,Thanks...
