Hi All,
I have an exterior window and I need to glue a molding frame onto it. I’m trying to avoid nailing the molding onto the window. The window is painted with exterior paint and the surface is in excellent condition. The paint is flat. My concern is that the bare wood of the molding has to adhere to a painted surface.
Is there a type of glue that would do a good job? I’m thinking epoxy would work here, but not sure.
Suggestions very welcomed!

Maybe this can be done, with a little luck, but it would be a long shot, I've never seen it done successfully. Even if you got the glue to adhere well to the paint, most paints aren't that well attached to the surface they're painted on, any stress on the molding will just lift the paint right off of the frame.
If this is an outdoor installation, clean the painted surface well and use a top of the line construction adhesive like PL4000, but you will need to clamp the molding somehow for several hours.

I would also use construction adhesive as a first choice. If after you apply it you press down on the pieces to be mated for about 30 seconds, and then disengage them, you can re-press them to hold instantly without clamps.Just don't overglue the work.
Jack and John,
Thanks for the advice. I'll seek out this type of adhesive and see if it works!
