I will be tackling the bathroom soon but I hope to cheat on the vanity. I was thinking of gluing a cherry veneer to the melamine carcase while using 3/4″ for drawer faces etc. I need suggestions for the glue….I thought of contact cement but I would be more comfortable with a longer working time.

I do a lot of work with veneer, and I use "tacc" contact adhesive, but you are right, you only get one shot, put it on right, or scrap the hole thing. I suppose, you could use a platic resin glue for the longer open time, or even yellow wood glue, but no matter what, you have got to sand, sand, sand, and break through the melamine to the substrate.
I hope this helps,
John

That sounds like a lot of fun :-)
As an alternative, you can use RooClear, Melamine and Vinyl adhesive.

Try the reverse - When faced with this situation I laminate white cabinet liner (a less expensive plastic laminate) to the timber faced board. We generally use cross-linking PVA in a bag press but contact adhesive works well too. If you are into sticking veneer to melamine, glues such as the polyurethanes would probably work but I would recommend taking the melamine off first. A belt sander with a 40 grit will rip it off pretty quickly if you don't have a lot to do.
