I am making a star design that includes attaching 1/2 ” x 1/2″ wood and aluminum strips at 45 degrees. I wanted to get opinions before I go ahead since this is a first for me. I was planning to use epoxy to join the pieces. I always use lacquer for wood furniture will that work as finish over aluminum? The piece will not see any stress, it will be mounted on 3/16″ stainless steel rods. Thanks for your help.

Epoxy will adhere well to aluminum, I scuff it lightly and wipe it clean just before assembly to remove any oxydation.
