This is for anyone who has built Chris Gochnour’s hanging magazine case project from FWW 146 or would like to make a suggestion about one final detail. Mine is finished except one small detail. I really like this piece and its simple but elegant lines. I’ve installed the doors using knife hinges as in the article.
I was wondering what would be a good clean way of making a stop or catch for the door as the shelf sits back about 1/8 inch and allows the door to swing in. I couldn’t tell from the pictures what the author used. I’m aware of the usual hardware. I was wondering if anyone came up with a method for stopping and catching the door that was in line with the quality of the design.

You might consider a rare-earth magnet catch. Very strong, small, and easy to install. Lee Valley sells one here:
